| Dorsal
Harness |
 |
The dorsal harness is comfortable
and safe. Its style is the basic sled dog/siwash style with a strap
between the front legs. This strap connects the collar to the girth.
When the dog pulls, he is pulling against his sternum, not his neck
and not his shoulder.
The hasp is welded to a metal plate sewn inside the padded saddle.
When you sit in the seat of the sulky, the shaft lifts up on the
harness. There is no weight on the dogs back. The dog is free to
walk, trot, lope or gallop. |
 |
The saddle is heavily padded. Collar, strap between
legs, girth and belly band are also padded. Girth, belly band and connecting
straps are adjustable. Collar and strap between legs do not adjust.
Available colors are blue, teal, red, orange, black,
purple, and green. Yellow by special order ONLY. |
|
The driving collar is heavier strapping than the
reins and far lighter than the girth and saddle strapping of the harness.
Its length adjusts. It quickly snaps on and off.
The reins are a light weight nylon strapping. The length adjusts
so that you can sit and drive comfortably with one length and then
walk behind the sulky for ground training using a longer length. The
slide snaps are light weight.
When driving two dogs, both need the driving collar. The reins snap
to the outside D rings and a neckline snaps to the two inside D rings.

| How
to Measure |
Before you Start
Use a soft measuring tape. Be sure the dog is standing square and level
with head up and legs square. Be sure the dog's back is not hunched or
roached. Measure the dog, not the fur. Weigh your dog, if possible. Proper
measurements are very important!! Take each measurement 3 times. Stretch
tape tight. Give us the average of the 3 measurements. If you have ANY
questions about measuring, feel free to email or
call Alpine Outfitters at 360.659.3800. 1. Collar: Stretch tape from juncture of neck and spine
to top of sternum. Multiply by 2.
2. Between legs: Stretch tape from top of sternum to
end of sternum where ribs split away.
3. Girth (Circumference): Measure around
the widest part of the chest. All the way around the dog at the mid rib
point where the sternum ends and the ribs split apart. The girth strap
holds the collar in place. it needs to rest slightly aft of the deep part
of the chest in order to keep from sliding forward. In other words the
chest bones hold it in place.
4. Length of back: Measure from base of neck to base of tail.
5. Waist: Measure the waist where the belly band will sit.
6. Height: Measure from the ground
to the top of the withers. This tells us how where to set the forward shaft.
The forward shaft is entirely adjustable but we like to paint it at the
height your dog will use. Measuring:
Study the picture below, and write down each measurement on a piece of paper
-- then measure again! If the numbers do not match closely - then keep measuring
until you get consistent measurements.
When ordering harnesses, please provide all of this information
in the measurements field of the PayPal order form:
- Collar
- Between legs
- Girth (Circumference)
- Length of back
- Waist
- Dog's name
- Breed
- Weight
We sew the dog's name
on the harness. Providing Dog's Breed, build and weight is helpful
for us to determine if your measurements are correct. If we (Alpine Outfitters)
have a question on the accuracy of your measurements, we will contact you.
Some harnesses made to “off standard” measurements may not be returnable. |
